Gentle Giants Elephants is excited to joined hands and work in collaboration with Wild is Life ZEN; a beautiful organization born out of love and respect for Africa's wildlife.
Founded in 1988 by Roxy Dankwerts; Wild is Life ZEN is located in Harare, Zimbabwe. Roxy, and her incredible team, have built a genuine wildlife & landscape conservation operation. This operation includes rescues, rehabilitation and re-wilding of injured and orphaned African elephants/wildlife.
In 2013, ZEN established the first elephant nursery in their country, as a specialized care center for orphaned, milk-dependent tiny giants. "To date, ZEN has rescued 50 orphaned elephants. 30 are in the process of rehabilitation; 12 are taking their last step to rewilding in Panda Masuie just near Victoria Falls." ~ ZEN
GG's Intention
Baby elephants require a highly specialized milk formula, and a lot of it, to support their physical and cognitive growth. The highly specialized formula, used by Wild is Life ZEN, is only manufactured September - February of each year. Every baby requires it for a minimum of 8 months. Without it, these tiny giants will not survive. GG's intention is to help provide this life-saving formula to current and future tiny giants. Additional milk, that is equally important for these gentle ones to thrive, can be purchased year round. This milk is needed for those tiny giants who have been weened off of the formula. Milk is one of the largest expenses for saving and rehabilitation tiny giants.
Baby Season... sadly, also means more baby orphans
While there are currently four tiny giants at Wild is Life ZEN that need our assistance; this time of year (December) baby season is beginning and sadly more orphans may be coming very soon.
This means a healthy milk store is needed. This also means urgent rescues may be coming. Gentle Giants Elephants will not only be assisting in milk donations, but also in rescue transportations, either by truck or air, if possible.
