We have set up a Prosthetic Fund, in honor of Mae Mai, to help future gentle ones live a greater quality of life. Mae Mai's bravery, resilience and sheer will-to-live is truly what inspired the birth of Bionic Giants. Our hope is to continue empowering other elephants, so they too have a greater quality of life.
Your support and contributions will enable us to improve and empower the lives of many.
Names of supporters will be displayed below for donations $150+ USD. We respect anonymity, if you do not wish to have your name listed please just let us know.
~ Thank you ~
We believe all living beings should be given the opportunity, help and tools necessary to take more control of their lives and become stronger and more independent.
Many elephants, captive and wild, suffer from traumatic events the cause them to loose their mobility, have enduring pain, and shorten their life-span.
In captivity, forced breeding, abuse, and slavery can all contribute to the debilitation of an elephants body; particularly the legs. Having injured legs, knees, ankles, shoulders, etc. Over time, these disabilities lead to serious issues with their spine and other extremities.
In the wild, elephants can encounter snare traps and land mines, which can be disabling and debilitating to their extremities and bodies as well.
When compassion and science collide, amazing things are achieved!
Professionally engineered medical devices have proven to aid in increased mobility, decreased pain, decreased stress on the body, and increase likelihood of a longer life-span. Psychologically they empower the elephant by increasing confidence and reducing the stress of feeling a need to always protect their injury. Medical devices for animals, just like for humans, require patience, persistent and adjustment time. But the end result is a physically and mentally stronger, more independent individual. They deserve no less.
Giving an elephant a prosthetic, or orthotic,
is not the end of their story.
It is the beginning!
We welcome any questions you may have regarding elephant prosthetics. We are here to make a difference.
This is the 1st time in history an elephant has been fitted with a knee brace!!
Without her brace the pain is excruciating with each step Mae Mai takes. Because her bad knee almost hits the floor. So the strain she places on her good leg is incredible! But now with her knee brace this is avoided, her knee is supported, relieving her pain and giving her more mobility. Love Wins #BionicGiants
