Ever since we saw Mae Mai walk, to ENP, with so much pain (due to her dislocated knee) we have never stopped thinking of ways to help her heal. To help her be able to live a pain free life.
Then, Derrick Campana, founder of Bionic Pets sprang to mind! We have teamed up and are now, not only helping 1, but actually 5 gentle ones!
Please join us, as we join hands with Derrick Campana & Bionic Pets on this new journey of healing. This journey will provide a new opportunity; a better quality of life for these 5 gentle souls.
With this opportunity, these 5 gentle ones will be able to walk without restraint, without pain. They will be given a new lease on life.
Mae Mai, a 30 year old female Asian elephant. She has a cranial dislocation of her back right knee joint. Bionic Pets is hoping to build a knee brace to protect and stabilize the stifle joint. This will allow Mae Mai to walk with more equal weight on all four legs and with less pain.
Thai Koon is a female Asian elephant who suffers from a elbow joint hypertension on her front right leg. Bionic Pets will be making her a special elbow brace to correct this hypertension, making Thai Koon much more comfortable.
Malai Tong is a female Asian elephant who suffers from a land mine incident as well. Bionic Pets will be making her a prosthesis for her hind left foot.
Mr. Cow, yes you read that right. We will also be having Bionic Pets make two front leg prosthesis for this beautiful bull calf who is only 1 year old. He was born without his full front legs. Imagine his joy at walking upright, walking normal, running!!
Gentle Giants will be donating the prothesis for baby Khun Dej - Baby Khun Dej is a 10 year old male Asian elephant who was severely injured by wire snares. Bionic Pets will be providing this beautiful baby boy with a prosthesis for his right front foot. Khun Dej will know the joy of walking, painlessly, on all four feet.
In 2002, Derrick Campana, started building orthotic and prosthetic devices for people and quickly learned this was something he was good at. It wasn’t until 2004 when a veterinarian brought her dog, a black Labrador named Charles, into his “human” office, that Derrick discovered his true passion… Making these devices for animals. From that one dog, his company today has treated nearly 20,000 furry patients with mobility devices. Receiving his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology/Biomechanics from Penn State University and Masters Degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Northwestern University, Derrick has pioneered the field of Veterinary Orthotics and Prosthetics (V-OP) into what it is today. Derricks Goal is to help as many animals as he can while in his lifetime and even the playing field between animals and humans as far as treatment options available. Derrick has been featured on The Dodo, Animal Planet, PetMD & you can watch Derrick on his show Wizard Of paws. https://bionicpets.org/ https://www.byutv.org/wizardofpaws
*NOTE: We want to be upfront and let everyone know that the overall funding goal amount could change; if Derrick Campana determines that these gentle ones require additional support or adjustment to their prothesis/brace. Mae Mai's brace is the most complex and may require adjustments, changes or a complete re-do; but we are in it for the long haul because she and the others are so worth it.
